We held our Grandparents Day celebration this week. We were delighted to welcome Grandparents and other family members to our school. It is wonderful to meet these lovely people that we hear so much about but do not see very often. They play such an important role in the children’s lives. The pupils had great fun creating art work especially for the day. Our Parents Association arranged refreshments with a fantastic array of home baking alongside teas and coffees.  All of our visitors were interviewed by the pupils with wide ranging questions such as “What was your favourite toy when you were little?” to “What is something you are really good at?” We got some great answers and some surprises!  The pupils showcased their talents for music, song and some Irish dancing. They played a variety music including Polkas, Jigs and some less traditional tunes. These included Shoe the Donkey, The Black Velvet Band and Bofield Belle to name but a few. We had a number of renditions of the very popular “Killeigh” initially on harp, followed by our first and second-class pupils and then the whole school joined in. One very brave pupil stood up and sang a solo of “A Coat of Many Colours”, a big Bualadh bos to her. We had a fantastic celebration for Grandparents Day and everyone really enjoyed themselves. Our thanks go to Mark O’Donnell our music teacher, the Parents Association for their support and to all of our visitors. We really enjoy having you part of our school community.
