During Science Week Ireland 2025, the Junior Room in Stokane National School took part in the European Space Agency’s Mission X: Train Like an Astronaut. The young scientists explored what astronauts need to stay warm, dry, and able to breathe by designing their own space suits, thinking carefully about insulation and protection in space.During PE the children trained—just like real astronauts!. They also investigated weather patterns on Earth, learning how convection currents work by creating colourful spiral snakes that moved in rising warm air. To deepen their understanding, the class made a tornado in a bottle, watching how spinning air forms powerful vortex shapes

The senior pupils of explored the wonders of chemistry, biology, physics, and engineering through hands-on discovery and teamwork. They created bright “fireworks in a jar” to investigate colourful chemical reactions, examined “what lives on us” in biology to learn about the tiny organisms that share our world, and tested their prediction skills in physics through the “Stack E’m Up” balance challenge. In engineering, pupils worked together to “build them strong,” designing structures that could withstand weight and pressure. Curiosity, collaboration, and creativity filled the week as students learned not just scientific facts, but the joy of exploring how the world works. It was an exciting week of curiosity, creativity, and hands-on discovery
