The end of our summer term has been just as busy as the beginning!
Our Creative Cluster Showcase was held in Kilglass woods on the evening of Thursday the 5th of June. The students from Kilglass, Killeenduff, Rathlee and Stokane National Schools are joined in a Creative Cluster Programme. They participated in various activities throughout the school year based around Irish Legends, storytelling and puppeteering. They used the huge puppets they had created to tell the stories of Fionn MacCumhaill, The Black Pig and Aengus the Giant to the backdrop of the woods. It was a truly magical evening and both participants and spectators had great fun.
We welcomed Mr Peter Neary in a different guise this week when he arrived to run a Bee Workshop for the pupils. Staff and students alike were fascinated to learn about the life and times of honey bees. Despite their size they have a huge role to play in our world. Peter showed us all aspects of bee keeping and explained how important it is to mind our native honey bee.
Life in the modern world can be stressful for everyone, including children who can sometimes struggle to cope. With this in mind we were delighted to receive delivery of our sensory pod this week. This provides a quiet safe space for any pupil who needs it during the day. The feedback from our pupils has been overwhelmingly positive, they look forward to their quiet time away from the business of the class room.
A huge congratulations goes to our boys’ team who were victorious after a thrilling final against Castlerock NS in this year’s Cumann na mBunscol Gaelic football competition.
For a bit of fun, we had an “Anything but a bag!” day where pupils came to school bringing their books in “Anything but a Bag”. We had a wide variety of containers arrive, some more appropriate for book carrying than others….they ranged from buckets and shopping baskets to a doll’s pram and a coal scuttle, most of which were not ideal for daily school use but made us laugh!
