Stokane NS Sixth Class, otherwise known as the Li’l Octaves, returned triumphant bearing a trophy for their Innovation Project from the First Lego League Regional Tournament 2024 in Athlone. They are one of only two teams out of sixteen who go forward to compete in the National Final in March.

A lot of very hard work went into their submission over the last few months. This year the theme is Masterpiece. They had to research and create an Innovation Project showcasing how they can inspire others with their creative passion. It’s no surprise that our team chose music as their passion and focused on the importance of Traditional Irish Music being taught in school.

They designed, built and programmed their robot “Issie” to complete a series of tasks in a limited time frame in the Robot games sector.

The team presented to a panel of judges on all aspects of their submission and answered questions relating to their Innovation Project and Robot design. They played their instruments and sang an especially written song based on their First Lego League journey as part of their presentation.

At break time and over lunch they picked up their instruments and entertained everyone with some traditional Irish jigs and reels. They even got some Irish dancers to join in!

We are incredibly proud of our team on their achievements and how they represented our school on the day.

We are very much looking forward to the Grand Final in March.
