Our annual Christmas Concert was held last Thursday night in Castleconnor Community Centre.

There was a variety of entertainment on show.

The evening started with traditional music and songs by our Céilí band to get everyone in the mood.

The junior pupils showcased their version of The Nativity; it focused on the necessary preparations needed for the birth of Our Lord. Despite some frustrations on behalf of the Inn Keepers and confusion amongst the Shepherds, all went according to plan and Baby Jesus arrived safely, much to the delight of all concerned.

The Pantomime performed by the senior pupils was the based on the fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel.It tells the story of a poor widow woman Betty Knott who along with her family, Freda (oldest daughter keen to find a life partner) Hansel (self-confessed genius but has a knack for blowing things up) and Gretel (mainly thinks about her need for food) are on a quest for a better life. They plan to find a suitable partner for Betty but, with the help of a witch, some dodgy builders and a garda who loses his glasses, things go slightly array. The chaos is helped along the way by the villagers and stall holders getting involved as well as a mysterious Old Lady and some mischievous Goblins. Thank goodness for Len Hurr who steps in to save the day.

There were lots of laughs to be had and in true pantomime style the audience were keen to be involved.

The evening finished with some music and Christmas Carols

The Parents Association provided refreshments and hosted a raffle for some lovely Christmas Hampers.

Our thanks go to Peter Neary for all his hard work with the music, our parents for their diligence helping prepare the performers and every one who was involved on the night. We could not do it without you.
