Here at Stokane National School we love nature and enjoy teaching the children about the amazing natural world we live in. This year as well as nature walks and gardening, we decided to try something new! The junior classes have been carefully minding some caterpillars and watching the changes they undergo until they emerge as butterflies. The children have been coming to school each morning excited to see what changes have happened overnight. We watched carefully as the caterpillars ate and ate and ate!! They grow to 10 times their original size before they form their chrysalis. We then had to wait patiently to see what would happen next. Our careful minding and patience was rewarded when beautiful butterflies began to appear. Once their wings had dried we could see their beautiful colours. So far we have released 5 beautiful and have a couple more to hatch yet. Isn’t nature amazing!
